Fascinators Today

Fascinators

A fascinator, a style of Millinery work is an extravagant headpiece, which can be described to be a cross between a hair accessory and a mini hat.  Fascinators are usually made with flowers, feathers, ribbon, fabric etc. and can be fancifully embellished with crystals, beads, pearls and stones.

They are attached to the hair on a comb, headband or clip and worn either in the front or side of the head.  They can come in a multitude of sizes from a small corsages to an elaborate arrangement of feather and bows.

Today, fascinators may be worn to formal occasions such as weddings, races and soirees as opposed to the traditional full brim hats.

In Nigeria, fascinators especially ones made from sinamay have always been around but as fashion has gravitated towards vintage and abstract styles, they have become increasing popular with a more exquisite, extravagant and sophisticated twist.  As fashion evolves, headpieces, fascinators inclusive take on different shapes and forms.  The world sat and watched in awe as the guest to the Royal wedding of Prince Philip and Kate Middleton paraded their hats and fascinators. It was absolutely fabulous.

In present times, it is very common for a bride to wear a fascinator as an alternative to a bridal veil especially with themed or unconventional wedding gowns.

Pieces and fashion accessories. Whatever the occasion, LET EMBELLISH ME EMBELLISH YOU.
